Legs cut from under me

My Macbook's hard drive died today, at the worst possible time. I can't bring it to the Genius Bar and I don't have any other computer except for my dad's, which I'm on now.
Now I am currently frantically searching for whether removing the hard drive voids my precious 1-year warranty.
I betting the problem is a combination of stupid firmware upgrades from Apple that screws up my fans and my running RockNES all day yesterday playing Tecmo Bowl. My fans do not like RockNES. They scream when I run it.
Good thing my dad's not home and doesn't need this.
