Rollin' & Scratchin'

[mood: :D] [listening to: DAFT PUNK]

Wow. Before Mike's post, we've really been having a dry spell of posts. btw Mike, you are a busy busy busy busy man.

So Homecoming was pretty sweet this year despite the senior class' epic losses to the Juniors and Sophomores in hallway and float respectively. I guess I really enjoyed the dance for once since they didn't just play rap music the entire time. It's got me in a crazy mood right now. Ever since I left the PAHS gym, I've been listening to dance/rave/house music the entire time. Homecoming is always a welcome break from schoolwork and a chance to have fun. It's too bad more people didn't come to the Chinese Stooges' "shady afterparty." It would have been so much more fun if we had more people.

I've promised people I would post this video I've been talking about for ages, so here it is: british punch

Here are some more post fillers:
Draaaaank
O'Reilly at his best
With all this cold weather, maybe you can save some money on kleenex...

Hey, let's D.A.N.C.E.
What? O you want to do that one more time?
Well, let me think about it.
Wooh! Alright-Yeah
How about you follow me overseas, to destinations unknown?
Alright, I'm off. Farewell.

Dancing in socks.

[mood: early morning sunrise] [listening to: music?]

Haven't posted in a while. (In case you haven't noticed.) So it's high time I update.
Well, life is beautifully crazy at the moment. Opera, college apps, and cross country basically are my life. Oh and I almost forgot. I occasionally go to school.
The year started off with my senior speech (basically a graduation requirement: pass or fail), then it was straight to school: papers, tests, and projects, oh my! Here's one week: 3-day trip to Princeton Arts & Humanities Symposium, college audition CD recording, cross country meet, SAT IIs. All immensely fun and hugely tiring...
So then it was NA homecoming & fine arts showcase and the big senior field trip to Arlington Nat'l Cemetery, the Holocaust & Smithsonian musems. And the next weekend found me dancing in socks...

I like this color orange.

[mood: fishy] [listening to: snow patrol]

First off, I'd like to echo the sentiments in the Settings tab and congratulate Nik.

YAY

Now that that's said and done, I might be able to update with something of substance. I might be getting fish. Or, rather, I want to get fish. An aquarium, if you will. Saltwater, to be specific. I've been doing a lot of research on this for the past few days and I've realized that its going to take a lot of time and effort. And money. All of which I probably don't have. But I've scoped out most of the local pet stores in the area, asked for advice, and I'm pretty sure this is a project I can undertake. I'm thinking of going with at least one clownfish, possibly another clown or another kind of fish, and a snail. I know now probably isn't the best time to be undertaking a huge project like this, but I just have this itch and I need to scratch it. Hopefully in a few months' time, I'll have a little aquarium set up with a fish or two. Consider this my lame way to force myself to update so I can update you guys on the progress. Any of you guys have fish?

On a totally unrelated note, its creepy how Virtual Virginia tracks your time on their website. They have specific times for when you log in, how much time you spend, and when you log out. Creepy.

  • [FUNNY] Iron Man came out on DVD September 30th - Hands down the best non-Batman movie this year.

  • [STATISTICS] McCain's leads in Virginia diminishing - Copious amount of data gathered from around the state. In pretty much every demographic, except for, say, white, pro-life, conservative Republicans older than McCain himself (yes, that's a statistic... and he's got it in the bag), Obama has a lead. Even in the churchgoers. Although it is sad that only a meager 23% of 18-34 year old's are likely voters.

  • [VIDEO] Take On Me: The Literal Version - Because no one can understand a single word of the original. Talking away... I don't know what AUP dedayo..

Spare me of This Cost

[mood: =o] [thinking about: homecoming]

Nik is still beastin'.

Name Participations Participation Points Correct Guesses Fraction Percentage Total Points
Parth 2 2 0 0 out of 2 0 2
Greg 2 2 0 0 out of 2 0 2
Nik 2 2 2 2 out of 2 100 10

Parth, "Heavy Rain" is a song, but it never expressly says "A Heavy Rain." The song I was referencing was "The Widow's Peak," by Dashboard Confessional. It's off of their new album. One of my favorites off of the new album, actually.

Congratulations to KLMS Debate

They swept the inter-city middle school debate tournament on Saturday. They had the top two in one division and first and third in the other division.

When it came down to the final, the round would have been a repeat of the debate that the two teams had juust done. To make a complicated story short, the coach just had them split the title.

We had a piano recital today. Our Halloween recitals always include the costume parade, where the best costume gets to pick a prize first. Everyone gets a prize, it's just the prestige of being able to pick first.

I intended to do this post before midnight to mention Janki's birthday, but it's too late. As compensation, you get a prize!*

My room is a total mess right now. Saturday night/Sunday morning, I intended to refile and organize all of my debate evidence. Sadly, only half of it got done. So there are papers covering a great deal of my floor. Kinda looks like that picture of David's living room.

I have capitalization problems. I was debating whether or not to capitalize this, but then I thought "1. whatever" and "2. I remember something about blah blah words" but "3. it's an adjective." So I went back and capitalized it.

No content? So what.

*Hublog prizes are sequential. Which means you get your prize as soon as I get my prize for 'first official schedules post.' Which I obviously still haven't gotten.

Transpacificism

[mood: can't articulate in words] [listening to: death cab]

You know, in a way, this site is sorta "indie." People find out about it from word of mouth and there is an active dialogue between the people behind it and the people who use it. Only thing we need now is for the authors to declare that we'll never sell out and get cool glasses. I think I've said this before, but I like to think of us kind of as a waferbaby imitation. Which reminds me, I haven't been active on there in a while. Quite possibly because I spend more time on here. Cause we're cooler.

Once again, like yesterday, I did little today. Mainly just slept. I also read some of that Steven Colbert book. It is actually pretty funny. Some of the things in his book will actually make you laugh out loud and make everyone around you look at you funny. If you got $20 to spare, I'd recommend getting the book. Although his gigantic face on the cover is a bit intimidating.

And apologies for the more frequent downtimes recently. This site seems to go down at least twice a day now, which is rather unfortunate. My server seems to like to fluctuate in this sense. Feel free to IM me to tell me its down, as some of you do already - however, I do get an email every time this site goes down, but you guys sometimes even beat the server email. Generally, I'd say safe times to be sure that this site would be up would be right when I come home after school (next week i'm staying after for class, so that'll be around 5pm) and at night (8pm+). I'll try to figure out a way to fix this. Although I've been trying for quite some time now without any progress. Unfortunately.

  • [VIDEO] Firefighter extinguishes a fire - Not a bad job perk, I have to say. He's just doing his civic duty.

  • [IMAGE] Online communities map - A pretty intriguing map of how everything on the internets is arranged. What makes it more amazing is how it was all drawn by one guy (most likely in photoshop).

  • [ARTICLE] CREEPY: Facebook knows what profiles you look at - In short, they can track who you stalk. Puts a new perspective on Facebook stalking, hmm? This brings to our attention once again the subject of Facebook's privacy policy, which is surprisingly "holy" and not very "private." They have access to all of your information for practically any purpose, the most profitable being of course, targeted advertising. But no fear, Facebook's looking out for the best of us! Right...? After all, all I really look forward to when I wake up in the morning is 5 more zombie invites and 4 more requests to be a ninja...

Ivory lines lead

[mood: okay-ish.] [listening to: death cab for cutie]

I got home today after class and found myself in a peculiar situation. I didn't know what to do. I had no homework to do, I wasn't really tired (Euro covered that), and there was nothing really on TV. So I slept. The best I could. Generally I fall asleep pretty easy after school, but today I even woke up a bit early. Peculiar.

So I went out tonight to do some shopping. I'm not a woman or anything, but shopping is pretty fun. Going through the isles and picking stuff up. So many choices. Then I went to the bookstore. Couldn't resist buying Colbert's book. I was originally going to buy A Short History of Nearly Everything but I realized that I had a better chance of actually reading and making it more than halfway through Colbert's book.

  • [CAPTION CONTEST] Pikachu, oh, dear Pikachu! - Provide a caption for this disturbing picture in the comments. Kudos to Eric for showing this to me.

  • [NEWS ARTICLE + VIDEO] Let's not forget that al-Qaeda have matches - Based on misinterpreted evidence on an FBI report 4 years old, FOX News is trying to blame the fires in California on al-Qaeda. Seriously now. Are they just desperate to bring up any instance of terrorism any way they can? Maybe if we scare the American public enough with fear of terrorism we can inflate our Defense budget even more? Is that their rationality? What's next? al-Qaeda controlling night and day?

  • [CAT!!] Cat confused by scratching - And here it is, your obligatory cat video of the day. Practically everything periodical on the internet mandates one of these.

[mood: giddy as a school girl] [thinking about: ...but i still have a math quiz tomorrow :(]

Today should go down in history. I don't think I've ever finished a research paper before 10pm the day before it was due. Ever. This is awesome. It feels great. Plus, my paper is pretty good so I just might redeem myself in English. Although, I highly doubt it is nearly enough to bring my grade back to an A :(

Well, now I have to study for math and do euro hw.

Across the Universe

[mood: meh/ :D] [listening to: The Beatles]

Adjust hublog settings to: FFAE13 for dramatic effect while reading this post.

Dude. This is hardcore. Guitar Hero 3 is going to be friggin' awesome.

So how was my Saturday you ask? Well here are some Saturday highlights:

First and foremost, #1: Across the Universe
I went to watch Across the Universe with my sister and her friends and I have to say, that movie is amazing. Not only does it feature totally awesome "Beatle-related compositions" but it is just a great movie in general. All the songs in the movie are by the Beatles of course, but they are all rearranged and such and sung by the cast members. [You can check some of the songs out via youtube.] Fret not though, the songs are not butchered or anything, they are just reworked to fit in more with the movie [like a couple are made more acoustic-y] and to incorporate all the singers. I mean, all the songs are still as good as the originals, and some people could argue better. Like there is a scene with Let it Be, and man, that was a tear jerker. I actually cried. That scene was really moving in my opinion. Usually I can hold back tears or just go to the brink of it, but that scene was too much. It was a masterfully combined force of music and visuals.

Anyways, the movie. Believe people when they say it is a trippy movie. I mean it is based in the Vietnam War era and it features songs like Strawberry Fields Forever. Seriously, what do you expect. Well, it's got a really great cast that really brings life to the characters. You really grow to like and feel for all the characters in the film. There is also a really strong theme of "Reality hurts and you can escape from reality, but any escape is temporary." The movie is not only deep but entertaining. Quite a bit of humor involved in the film. There are also a plethora of subtle/obscure Beatles references and allusions. [One of my favorites is with the character Max, and the references to Maxwell's Silver Hammer. It's merely references though, don't go into the theater expecting some serial killer with a sliver hammer.] There is a lot more to say about the movie, but I am in a rush to do my homework [:\] and you really just have to see the movie. It's like a beautiful painting, I can talk to you as much as I want about it, but nothing will compare to actually seeing it. Great music, great actors/singers, great plot. Go watch it. Plus, for the ladies, the lead male roles are apparently "cute"/"hawt." For the guys, Selma Hayek in a nurse outfit x5 [you'll see what I mean] and a boob. Alriiiiiiiiiiiight. Bow chicka bow wow.

For a more info and a pretty good list of those Beatles references, where else but wiki?
Here's a trailer:
trailer.

So, onto highlight #2: Transformers
I bought the Transformers movie in this really sweet kick ass tin collector's case. it's like the one they have for video games usually [see: FFXII special collector's edition] I don't see why they don't do it more for DVD's :\. Anyways. It's awesome. It has the Autobots logo on the front and it says PROTECT and it's just so shiny and beautimous. I mean, I don't even want to touch it, afraid that I may damage its beauty. It's like my Planet Earth DVD set, its just so nice that I am satisfied enough with just looking at the case. And yes, I have a CD/DVD fetish. I treat all my DVD's/CD's and their cases with the utmost care. Sucks for my LoveHina Best Collection CD though :(

O, and if you're wondering where that dramatic effect comes in. It doesn't. I'll incorporate the colors in a post sometime later though.

And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain,
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders.
For well you know that its a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder.

Hey Jude, don't let me down.
You have found her, now go and get her.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.

After Katherine went up to get their team trophy, she hugged me on the way back to her seat and said what a great teacher I was. I was beyond flattered not only because I was not a good teacher, but because no one really ever hugs anyone on the way back to their seat. They are definitely moving up to Classical next TDL.

Model 3

[mood: not sure] [listening to: lvb]

I don't think its an understatement to declare what an interesting week we've all had. But as always, people grow and people change and hopefully people learn. I'm hoping that we're past all this and that we're on the "learning" stage right now. I want to be able to do my research paper in peace without having to worry about stuff I don't want to be worrying about. I want next week to be different.

I think there's a rat in my garage. Something small and furry scuttled its way around one end of my garage as I stepped in there and I pretty much freaked out. I think I'm scared of anything with more than two legs and a sense of awareness.

  • [VIDEO] Fire alarm on Conan - An emergency happens live during Conan's taping. Hilarity ensues. This is quite possibly the definition of "instant classic." Anyone who disputes that this show is full of nothing but awesome can bite me.

  • [GAME] Chat Noir - Addictive time-killer. As I've always said, I've always liked to design simple-concept games like this. But I can never come up with the concept quite as well as these people do. I'll give you a hint: hexagons.

  • [WEBSITE] Give free rice to the poor - While improving your SAT Reading score! Basically, you answer vocabulary questions and for every question you get right, you donate 10 grains of rice. I've donated about 200 grains. Which isn't a lot if you think about it, but it could still help feed someone. I don't understand the economics or even ethics of the whole thing, but nevertheless, its kinda fun and makes you feel good. I mean, why can't they just give the rice out... as if vocabulary is a "drive" for people to do something, or helps them make money to buy rice... or something like that.

Story of an Hour

[mood: meh.] [listening to: The Hives]

So, as you all noticed, I didn't go to school yesterday. Why is that you ask? Well let me tell you. Last night, I stayed up till 3 doing homework and fell asleep while halfway through Act I Scene I of Merchant of Venice [yes, I still haven't quite read it yet]. Suddenly, my alarm goes off, so I get up, think to myself "shit. I'm screwed," turn my alarm off, then fall right back asleep. Then, the next thing I know, I wake up, the sun is up, and it's 11. Then I say "Why the hell am I still here?" While I begin contemplating this dilemma, I fall back asleep. Not long after, my sister [back from VCU] comes into my room and asks "Why the heck are you at home?" and I simply reply "I have no clue." So at around 12-ish I get up and realize that there's no point in going to school and then go to the DMV/Target/KFC/Wal-Mart with my sister. So the whole day I keep thinking "Why didn't I go to school? Dad wakes me up and drives me to the bus stop and it's not like he forgot. I also didn't say I was sick or anything. So hmmm..." So I narrowed it down to two possibilities. I was dead tired and could not be awakened, or that whilst barely-awake, I told my dad I wasn't feeling well and I forgot. [Yes, that happens. Once last year I woke up in the same situation, walked into my mom's room and asked her why I wasn't at school. She said I told her I wasn't feeling well and did not feel like I could go to school, so she let me stay home. I did not remember a bit of this. Apparently I am a pathological liar when I'm sleepy.] Well I got my answers when I got home and my dad was home from work. He just said he tried to wake me up but I was unresponsive. So yeah. Sorry I couldn't brighten up your boring A day yesterday :\ I know you all missed me :D

I Sing of Arms and a Man.

[mood: meh.] [listening to: One of the greatest songs ever freaking written.]

God loves Shrimp Chips

It's a bird!
It's a plane!
No, it's a servant of God!

WARNING:
This entry has been rated PG-13 by the ECCFRB due to use of strong language, intense action, partial nudity, displays of drug use, sexually orientated themes, and for having too much AWESOME.
Enjoy.

How was my weekend you ask? Well I'll tell you, it was fucking awesome.

I went to VCU to with the Ma's to visit my sister and Antonio. Our friend Sherry was also present. Well hanging out around campus was pretty fun, and the cafeteria was fun. We had a lot of fun with tv's around campus and the Ninja Remote I bought; HOWEVER, the best part of the trip happened in the park. There is a park right in front of the dorms and lots of people go there on the weekends. A group of these people we saw there can only be described as total nerds. FREAKING AWESOME NERDS. I'll give you a taste of what we witnessed. Antonio, Eric Ma, and I stood on the sidewalk beside the park, and we watched these nerds in an epic battle. An epic battle of 10 pale and nerdy men and one black guy. With each man wielding a sturdy foam shield and an arsenal of green, blue, and red foam weapons, this battle for superiority raged on before us. Men rushed around in flashes of blue and red headbands, sword and shield clashed, and comrades fell. In the end, one man proudly put one foot upon his recently vanquished opponent and raised his sword in victory.

Then we clapped, and some guy asked us if we wanted to join in. We said "sure, alright."

So we walked under the tree over to our scrawny guide, ready to begin our glorious journey. A journey to achieve manhood. Our guide's glasses gleamed with glory and confidence as he instructed us our mission. He explained to us the heroic weaponry that lay before us, crafted by the most skilled of elves, forged from only the finest foam of the great dwarf mines, and thirsting for the blood of all standing in the way of its path to glory. We barely breathed as the wise one opened his mouth, releasing his wisdom, flowing from his mouth and into our ears. He said:
"Ok, well here's a green weapon, it's mainly for stabbing. You hit a limb, the person loses it, they put their arm behind their back or get down on one knee if they lose a leg. If they get hit in the body, they die. This can also be used as a throwing weapon. Alright, here's a blue weapon..."
Well, to simply things:
*Green - Small. Can be thrown. Like a dagger. Body hit = death. Hit in a limb = lose the limb.
*Blue - Like a sword. Hit a limb = lose the limb. 2(hit a limb) = death. Hit in the body = x_x.
*Red - Muthafucking huge weapon. One for each team. Get hit = pwned. y(x) = shield + x(hits), and y(2) = 0 + :(.
*Shield - A shield. What other explanation would you need?

We listened intently and absorbed every word spoken. Then he finished, and where apprentices once kneeled, warriors now stood. Reborn with our our shining shields in one hand and our weapons in the other, we charge off into battle.
[to be continued.... when you ask me about it in person, because after that, we played all this crazy stuff, and it's way too much to type up.]

I know, I know, it was that awesome. You can pick your jaw up off of the ground now, and pack away that jealousy too. Don't cry. Wipe away those tears, the story has not ended. The gallant heroes will continue on forever in our hearts.

Hey, I don't know if you guys know this yet, but Starlight is a fucking awesome song. So is Knights of Cydonia. Actually let me rephrase all that. MUSE FUCKING OWNS.

[mood: =-o] [listening to: daft]

FTW!
Apparently, I won one of the contests on DA. You guys remember the "Donut and Sprinkles" I made before? I submitted to a "Sweet Tooth Contest" and I won 1st place. =o The prize is : $20 Ad Cast & 3 month subscription to DA. Basically, that guarentees me 500 page views with an ad I will create, which means more people will be coming to my page because of it. It's a good thing my sister's computer has Photoshop on it. Or else, I would probably have to make the AD through MS Paint...

But yeah, thanks especially to Krista for voting for my entry. =] WHOOHOO!

More mindless assignments

[mood: cold] [listening to: ocremix]

For those of you in IB Music, is it me, or are all of our homework assignments mindless pieces of garbage? It's not normally my style to rant about specific classes, but IB Music is especially important for me. I actually looked forward to taking this class since I found out about it in Freshman year. But all it seems to be now is time to do homework and watch random videos about things that I doubt will even help us on the exam. I mean some of the things we do are pretty cool, but I even feel kinda jealous towards the IB Art kids who tote around their all-so-cool notebooks and whose class seems like you can do whatever you want creatively. The only thing we get to do somewhat to that extent is our Friday compositions, but in doing two of those, I have lost interest quickly. Is it me or does IB Music suck away your love for music?

Every year I make a pact with myself that I won't wear anything long (sleeved, pants) until Election Day. Whoops.

Art Updates

[mood: eh] [eating: eh]

As most of you know, there has been a lack of any updates from me in a long time. As most of you know, it's because my computer crashed and took the programs I used, the music I had, and all the documents along with it. Hopefully, I can find the programs sooner or later so I can get back to graphic design. Hopefully, it won't be too long. I know I miss doing it as much as you guys miss seeing them. Be patient with me, you will be satisified soon enough.

[mood: pretty good :D] [listening to: The Zephyr Song - RHCP]

I started this post the day before the Dashboard Confessional concert. This is just another one of those long posts with random things listed for your amusement.

Parth, I took a listen to that Red Hot Chili Peppers song. Kick ass. Well, almost everything by RHCP is kick ass. John Frusciante = fucking awesome. And same with everyone else in the band.

Anyways, about that Dashboard concert. There is a lot to talk about, but nothing that doesn't happen at other concerts, assholes that don't know how to give you any space, attractive females taking photographs of themselves, tall people standing in front of you, and people walking around with full cups of foamy inebriating substances. Putting those things aside, the concert was awesome, the whole experience was. Especially in the parking garage when everyone started honking their horns together. Freaking awesome. Now the concert itself, orgasmic. The only way the concert could have been any better is if Chris played more songs. Great stuff.

Speaking of Chris, I have officially decided that Chris Carrabba can read minds. It was really freaking scary. During the concert, there were several occasions of this. At one point, someone told him to play Vindicated. He pretty much responded with a "screw you, I'm playing whatever I want," and at that very moment, I thought "I guess he's only going to play b-sides" Guess what he said. "All I'm playing tonight is b-sides." Coincidence? I think not, read on. At another point in the show, he got out an electric guitar [telecaster? I forget.] and the spotlight was hitting it and reflecting off into the audience. When I saw that I was thinking "Ha, that's like Bono and U2." Guess what he said. "I feel like Bono with this huge spotlight." God damn. Plus, that's not all. For some reason, one of the songs made me think about Weezer, and I thought "Man, I feel like listening to some Weezer." Well, when he finishes up the song he was just playing he begins to introduce the next song. He says it's a cover of a song by a band he toured with once. Now which band was that? Fucking WEEZER. [El Scorcho]

Speaking of Weezer, I think it was Matt that was asking about this? Muppets + Weezer = magic.

Final word on the concert: Despite running into a couple of douchebags and losing faith in the secrecy of my mind's contents, it was pretty awesome. Not only was it enjoyable, it was also inspirational. I came up with the greatest idea in the world. I am going to invent a whammy bar for acoustic guitars.

Speaking of instruments...
Greatest drummer ever? Buddy Rich.
Want to argue with me? Show me someone else who can play this like Buddy Rich does. O wait. YOU CAN'T.

Speaking of drums...
I really need some money to get new heads for it or try and sell it and buy an entirely new set. So if anyone is interested. :D

Speaking of money...
T-SHIRT COMPANY. Well, we're all pretty busy, maybe we'll figure something out during the next break we have.

Speaking of t-shirts...
songmeanings.net
I always like to read through people's thoughts on lyrics sometimes. It really shows how far you can stretch things. Fun to read. You can also find the occasional Parth. The person who says stuff like "its beautiful. to take a word like stolen, which alone holds such a negative meaning...but when he almost 'whispers his words'--you have stolen my heart--- he shows how love is unique....in that such a common emotion, has such unique, overpowering qualities...love can both be liberating anc captivating. it can be both willing and unexpected..." [sic]
Beautiful.
Too bad it made almost no sense at all.
btw that was in a thread about Stolen by Dashboard Confessional.

Speaking about confessions...
I believe someone asked a question in the bloober a while back about the hottest extreme sports athlete. Well, I believe surfing counts?
I also believe Anastasia Ashley counts?

Speaking of counting...
This is pure genious.
I am totally going to propose like that.

Speaking of proposals...
This is not a link.
Mozart on electric bass. Not perfect, but fun to watch and listen to.

Speaking of literature...
Diagramming sentences: How would it ever help you in life?
Well I came up with a way. You know those scenarios people are thrown into in the Saw movies? Well what if you were stuck in one of those scenarios, and the only way to get out was by diagramming? Well, what would happen would be, the victim would be locked in a room and on a wall in the room is a sentence. The person finds the tape blah blah listens to it and finds out that he must diagram the sentence in order to get out. Easy so far right? Well this is where the fun begins, the person has a limited number of tries. How would you limit someone's tries? Well, we only have so many fingers and toes... The person has to cut off a digit and use it as a writing stick, and when they have completed their answer, they must throw their "writing stick" into a disposal thing for the man in control to check his answer. Yeah, I know, gruesome.

Speaking of pain...
You know, that would make a freaking great commercial promoting education. The screen starts off pitch black, then the lights kick in and its the aforementioned scenario, except you could probably change it up with a math problem or something. Then the tape would say like "Mr. Johnson, you always said school was useless... etc etc." Then the real fun would begin. Finally, at the end of the commercial, this Mr. Johnson submits his final try. The guy in charge checks it. WRONG. Then you hear the scary voice "Goodbye Mr. Johnson." and the whole screen goes pitch black and you hear the guy scream "NOOO!!" [a la Saw I Credits] and on the screen, the words "STAY IN SCHOOL." will appear.

Speaking of awesome...
Call him Dolphin Boy. Or Ben. Either one. Doug or Glenn, take your pick.

enjoy.

So everybody has been calling for a new post

[mood: okay ish] [listening to: death cab]

So here it is.

Now people often ask me why I don't like people coming into my house. I hope the following picture demystifies things a bit.

messy

You literally have to jump to get across this room. Those are probably all the chemistry notes from last year you see on the floor. I think I'll clean this up within the next few days though. I just decided to post this now because the new boxes from my Thinkquest laptop that I got today made the picture seem more artistic and even poetic. Like at the start of the school year, none of this was there. But one day, I kicked open a binder accidently... and well, you can see the result.

sat

These are SAT prep books. Two are retail from the US and three I bought in China. All in all, I have 34 practice tests. If you want a practice test, just drop me a line. I have no need for all 34.

I hope this quenches people's thirst for a new post. I'll post some Dailies then go clean that mess up. Its kinda shameful seeing it online. Honestly. I'll post an "after" later tonight or tomorrow.

Oh, and we got our Thinkquest laptops today! Toshiba Tecra models, 2.00 ghz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM for those of you who care. Vista still mystifies me, though. I can't install Firefox for some reason. I still like my Mac better. But at least now I can play BioShock.

  • [PICTURE] Its a trap! - Don't fall for it, poor bees. Pretty cool photograph.

  • [PICTURES] German vs. Chinese - I like the one about time. And the one about queues is totally true. But can someone explain to me the "Definition of Beauty?"

  • [VIDEO] People who annoy you - He got a lot of help there.

Overdue Notice: your post is very overdue

[mood: let's go running for an hour or so. i'm serious.] [listening to: washing machine (and yes, that is a song, although i'm talking about the one in my laundry room)]

Well, I haven't actually written a post about my life, so I thought I'd do that for once.

This week was Homecoming at Norfolk Academy. It was pretty cool, and loads of stuff happened, so I'll start from the beginning. This week was also Spirit Week.
Monday: super-hero day (I forgot to dress up)
Tuesday: pirate day (I looked more like a french sailor with an eye patch)
Wednesday: tacky tourist day (sunscreen on the nose and enormous binoculars around the neck). I got asked to the [Sadie Hawkins] Homecoming dance while running a distance workout for cross country. haha. That's a LONG story. Maybe you guys will hear it later. Now, on Wednesday I also caught the bug that was going around, and since I went to the opera that night, I didn't get much in the way of sleep. Needless to say, I can estimate that I used at least a couple hundred tissues over the next four days.
Thursday: Hampton Roads day (oh, the irony. "Virginia Beach pride" is most definitely an oxymoron). That was the day I was worried I would be too sick for Homecoming.
And of course Friday was blue and orange day, on which day we cross country guys wore our race jerseys and shivered in the cold ACed rooms. Friday was the cross country meet, which was awesome. I made my best time for a race: 5K in 20:02. (That's 3.1 miles to you guys.) I must say I surprised myself because I was dog tired. Imagine if i was healthy--I could've shaved off at least another 30 seconds from my time.
So, on Saturday, I had a voice lesson. Then I went to the Homecoming picnic and saw some of my friends in the Fine Arts demo. I was supposed to meet my date at the Homecoming game, but I fell asleep at home and got to the game AFTER she left. oops. Actually, I was supposed to be selling drinks, but they ran out by the time I got there. (yay!) So, I go back home, call Anna and find out we're going to Bravo's with 9 other couples. By my math, there were 20 of us Juniors. It goes well, but there was absolutely NO WAY we would ever make the dance in time, so I tell my dad not to worry about driving us there. Long story short, there is plenty of time, so my dad has to drive all the way back and pick us up and take us to the dance. Now, the dance: it was plenty of fun (minus all the grinding)--everybody enjoyed themselves, and I got all my non-dancing friends to dance. Phew! That was one long week.

On a sadder note (adagio in the key of e minor, maybe?) I will not be able to make it to the PA homecoming, *tear* but I hope you guys have loads of fun.
Just no dirty dancing, k? k.

On a lighter note (something like 'nanny-nanny boo-boo') I DON'T HAVE SCHOOL TODAY!!! haha. Sorry guys. Ya know, I haven't talked to many of you in forever. You should call me. I don't wanna call you in case you have tons of homework, but if you don't, CALL ME!!! We all need to hang out some time.

Illuminate them. Yes.

[mood: feeling appreciated.] [listening to: deathcab]

Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday today. Made me feel kinda important. As to the question of whether my birthday is really on the 3rd or the 13th... that's for me to know and you to never find out, eh?

In going to the Dashboard concert last weekend, I've kinda had a resurgence and started listening to Death Cab again. Don't know why. Shouldn't I be really listening to Dashboard more? Oh well.

  • [VIDEO] Piano cover of Blink 182's Down - Oh, maybe some Blink 182 as well, especially their later stuff. I found this yesterday and think its a really nice cover. Its odd how the camera randomly zooms in and out, though. Its not just any crappy vocals + chords cover either, its actually kinda sophisticated.

  • [ARTICLE] MIT Entrance Exams for 1869-70 - Kinda makes you think about how far along we've come in math and everything else. I'm pretty sure I could have made it into MIT back then. And pretty much everyone reading this site.

  • [PICTURES] Okay. I'll cut my hair - Once a week, please.

Another Sun-Soaked Season Fades Away

[mood: sadness] [eating: strawberry cheesecake ice cream]

As of right now, Nik is in first place. It seems he's doing well in all areas of his life.

Name Participations Participation Points Correct Guesses Fraction Percentage Total Points
Parth 1 1 0 0 out of 2 0 1
Greg 2 2 0 0 out of 2 0 2
Nik 1 1 1 1 out of 1 100 5

The Dashboard concert on Saturday night was the time of my life. If I had to cast a patronus on the spot, the show would be my memory. He played most of the songs I wanted him to play. He told us that it was one of his favorite concerts. And that he loved us. And that we sang really well. We practically started So Impossible for him, and Remember to Breathe was what he played instead of the good fight, which was what was scheduled. While I'm on subject, let me share with you the contents of my set list.

BEST (The Best Deceptions)
BRILLIANT (The Brilliant Dance)
AGAIN (Again I Go Unnoticed)
DON'T WAIT (Don't Wait)
SWISS (The Swiss Army Romance)
***CARRY*** (Carry This Picture)
FOR U 2 NOTICE (For You to Notice)
SO IMPOSSIBLE (So Impossible)
THIEVES (Thick As Thieves)
SCREAM (Screaming Infidelities)
DUSK (Dusk and Summer)
EL SCORCHO (El Scorcho)
VINDICATED (Vindicated)
STOLEN (Stolen)

------------------------------- (Encore)
GOOD FIGHT (this is wrong. he actually played Remember to Breathe)
HANDS (Hands Down)

After the concert, a roadie gave out like three set lists. I went up to a white girl who got one. I offered her two two dollar bills and ten pesos. It went something like this: "I'll give you two two dollar bills and ten pesos Filipino currency for that!" So I got a set list for $4.05. Then I saw Tina and Jashlyn. And of course, I got t-shirts. Further detail into how personally moving the concert was might make you think that I just might be a woman.

Not really much else worth mentioning immediately. Developments not fruitful yet. Stuff like that.

I do want to create an aside dedicated to Parth in iambic pentameter.

Ode to Parth
How you have grown since you were just a prick
Now dancing with girls in a manner slick
Receiving digits in your cell phone's frame
When none of them can you match to a name
And now you mellow out just like us all
Some parts of you will certainly now fall
But for the rest I see you're growing tall
The future full of promises doth call.

Suspended in midair

[mood: schm':TIRED] [listening to: amadeus]

So tired. I spent a few seconds thinking of a good hook to start this introductory paragraph of my post. Then I went, wtf.

Thats "Whats The Focus," mind you.

So tired, so much stresses. I don't need this much. MYPPP, Chem, Orchestra, Piano, I don't need it. Plus, I'm not getting any sleep. Ooh, coffee's ready.

Maybe I can get through the day with this one cup. I've been having about a cup a day recently. I don't think thats healthy.

  • Yeah, you've seen them all before, but another stupid signs list never hurts. Its a good way to take some of the stress off. I nearly splooged coffee everywhere on my white keyboard, white mouse, and white laptop when I read about the "HUGE" fcuk up.

  • Facebook. Its better than Myspace. Join it. Originally the rate-a-face college game.

  • Triumphant return - After 24 years of a little hiatus, The Who make a triumphant return. I can't wait to hear their new album, which features a 10-minute mini-opera, "Wire & Glass." I also believe the rest of the album will be structured around a general theme like Who's Next was. The first chance I get to run out to Best Buy I'm grabbing this.
Of course... that would imply I would have free time.

[mood: ] [thinking about: ]

Matthew Veland, rise to the stand.

Matthew Veland, why do you push whats good away from you? Even animals know that if they touch something and it stings them, they shouldnt touch it.

Matthew Veland, why do you masquerade as a victim, as a champion of the selfless? You add yet another hypocrisy to your collection. You denounce victims all the time, yet you're the king of playing them. Everytime something goes wrong, its because of your selfishness.

Matthew Veland, why do you half-ass everything?

Matthew Veland, why do you have to make everything a god damn thing? It's always exaggerated, hyperbolated to the point of fantasy. You make everything seem as if the things are of grave importence. Who are you to assume that you mean so much? And do they even mean so much to you? You'd like to think yes, but if they did, then why do you do what you do?

Matthew Veland, why do you lie? Why do you wear thousands of masks, and none of them fit?

Matthew Veland, if she doesn't come back, it's all on you.

Matthew Veland, why are you even here?

Matthew Veland, why are you bitching and moaning? No one likes a bitcher and a moaner. But then again, what does it matter? They have no reason to like you anyway, you've done wrong to everyone. Or at least that's what you think, in your self-centered victim world. There you go again, assuming that you're such an integral part of people's lives.

Matthew Veland, you're even blowing things up right now. Everyone's got problems, why the hell do you need to make yours noticeable? You're only making other people stress out by reading this, you're doing on one any good. Why don't you keep your damn problems to yourself? Or at least most of them, instead of blowing all of them up in other people's faces.

Matthew Veland, that's the problem with you. As much as you like to wear the selfless mask, you're as self-absorbed as any other bastard. We see you when you get something right on the piano, when your face is cleared up, when you've done math homework. When you do something right or do something thats expected of you, you act like you deserve an award. Get over yourself. You're not all you're cracked up to be, and you know that better than anyone. Stop being sucha bitch, act with regards to how it will affect others, not just how it will affect you. Objectivism has its limits. Because Rand fails to acknowledge that we're human. Bottom line, stop wearing the mask and get over yourself.

Matthew Veland, quit acting like you understand things. Your mind only goes so far. You're one of those people who understands part of something then acts like they get the whole thing. These philosophies are really all over your head.

Matthew Veland, quit comparing your life to TV shows. It's so fucking annoying. Those people are actors paid to act out fake dramatic lives.

Matthew Veland, you should just act out-of-body. Just do your chores, do your homework, don't fuck up anyone else's life. You've done it time and time again with your selfishness and your eyes.

Matthew Veland, get out of everybody else's life! They don't want you in it; you're just an asshole who will mess it up for them.

Matthew Veland, quit trying to help other people. You can't even get your own life straight, quit dicking around with their lives.

Matthew Veland, why are you so cruel to your family? Maybe if you were nicer to them they'd be nice to you.

Matthew Veland, you make me so sick. I have to go back to condemning this. Why?? Why do this? You're just adding to the assholery that everyone perceives about you. They'll just roll their eyes at you, get annoyed, then continue living their lives. Without you. Do you understand that? Just shut up.

Matthew Veland, get a life. you're actively creating problems now, by just sitting here. Grow up and get a life.

Matthew Veland, it's things like this. This is why people hate you. And why they are annoyed at you.

Matthew Veland, you had better prove yourself. To her and to us. When the situation arises, if you screw it up then, we'll have absolutely no sympathy for you. You're lucky that she's giving you another chance. She has no reason to. Leave her alone. Let her come to you, because the choice is hers, not yours. Wait until she's ready, for once.

Matthew Veland, how could you do that to her? You idiot.

Matthew Veland, I can't fucking stand you. Go away.

The Circle of Life Beckons

[mood: schm'arhaghahrhag!!!] [doing: goodlord]

I gotta learn a 149-measure piano piece in three days. I started yesterday. Aragharuagh. I suppose its my own fault for not practicing earlier. But its also Hughes' fault for going through the piece only about 2 and a half times so far. We haven't even made it through the entire piece from beginning to end. What is she, crazy? Expecting us to put together a piece like this, however easy it is, in like 2 classes and 1 rehearsal.

I also got a load of homework to do so aren't things just dandy?

Homecoming last night. DJ played rap music. Enough said.

  • OH SNAP - As Gregory would say. In this top 10 list of places for college grads to find a job, Virginia is the only state with two cities on the list. Richmond at #6... and yes, Virginia Beach at #10. Don't be surprised if you see young Asians flocking here from elsewhere in the world.
"Corporations have been leaving the northeast, and going toward the southeast, where the climate is easier and the cost of living is easier," says Nels Olson, a managing director with executive search firm Korn/Ferry International. Retirees are migrating south for the same reasons. Meanwhile, Asian auto firms like Toyota Motor and Nissan Motor are building plants in southern states, where unions are scarce.

  • Dumbtard - Gets first question on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire wrong. Enough said.

  • PWNTNSTN - A good watch of Jon doing his normal stuff on his show... countering attacks with non-counters. There is nothing "break-through" or "intelligent" about what Jon says. But the fact that he undoubtedly won this little debate tells you something about the opponent if someone can win with old, stupid arguments.

Theres something happening here. What it is, ain't exactly clear. There's a man with a gun over there. Telling me, I've got to beware. I think its time we stop.

I think its time we stop. I'm so damn tired. Of it.

Why aren't there more intellectual men in our grade?

So we decorated the hall yesterday and got last (3rd) because the Freshmen basically got disqualified. Damn goals.

You know what I wanna know? Have you ever seen the rain?

I'm thinking about too much stuff and too confused to write anything substantial here right now.

  • How to hack a Diebold voting machine - A very good step-by-step video of an overfriendly guy telling you how to hack a Diebold voting machine, the kinds used in Virginia. Incredibly easy and can be done within a minute to rig an election. Tell your dads.

  • Mitch Hedburg Stand-Up - Mitch Hedburg is probably my favorite underground stand up comedians. His style is one-line delivery with emphasis on wrong syllables. But very funny. Listen to this five minutes and you'll have more laughs than a half hour show of Will and Grace.

Eh, well. Thats it, just two dailies. I wanna sleep before doing the float for Latin.

All that's left is hope. hope that the blunder is overlooked. hope.

no, not you. i meant you.

there is no error without consequence, but ive heard of forgiveness.

so now i have to go to the dance.

please. i know now. fuck what they say.

Divine Intervention
Taking Back Sunday

Despondent, distracted,
You're vicious and romantic;
These are a few of my favorite things.
All of those flavors and
This is what you choose:
Past the blues, past the blues,
And on to something new,

Something real, make it timeless,
An act of God and nothing less will be accepted.
So if you're calling me out,
Then count me out.

Yeah, we're stubborn and melodramatic,
A real class act.
You see, I know a few of your favorite things.
Five in the morning and all comes out pouring,
Love, out the same way in.

Something real, make it timeless,
An act of God and nothing less will be accepted.
Now if you're calling me out,
Then count me out.

Azn-less

[mood: schm':(((((ish] [listening to: schubert]

Are Eric and me the only purebred Asians left on this earth and don't use a screen name with the word "azn" in it? Azninvazn, shortnazn, aznsoulreaper, metallicasianizm, you name it. Azn.

Every day after I shower I come out feeling one of four things.
1. Depressed - Self-explanatory.
2. Enlightened - I start thinking about life after high school and how I have to shape up and concentrate on school. So, I do the homework I was going to save til morning after I get out.
3. Musical - I start thinking about musical life outside of school and how I have to shape up. So, I practice Schubert or Beethoven, or whoever I seem to be playing at the time.
4. Tired - Self-explanatory.

A nice little chiasmus list for the kids. Today I felt musical. I'm learning Schubert's Impromptu Op. 90 No. 4 in A-flat and I learned a whole A-flat major run at tempo after I got out of the shower. Not bad for about half an hour's work. For reference, the part I learned was from 1:18-1:41 in the video. At that tempo to, I worked it up to be.

Another piece I'm currently fascinated in is Rachmanioff's Prelude in B minor. Listen to it and get introduced to he classics. Or, Romantics, to be precise. The part from about 1:43 to about 2:50 is undeniably good. Except for the dissonant chords.

  • Rap for the lighter folk - Bill Maher translates rap lyrics into something rich white males can understand. Hilarity ensues.

  • Dane Cook on Insomniac Tour - Dane Cook has become my new favorite stand up. He's younger than Lewis Black, smarter than Bill Engvall, dumber than George Carlin (and Bill Maher for that matter), and less annoying than Jerry Seinfeld. He's like the white Chris Rock, I could say. Watch this standup bit. Very funny.

  • Google Trends - A somewhat new feature I discovered today hidden in the depths of Google. Enter words separated by commas, and Google'll give you a graph of its popularity in number of searches and in the number of times its been mentioned in the news. For example, if you compare Apple and Microsoft, you can tell that MS has a bit of a lead. However, an interesting thing I discovered is that when George Bush, Tony Blair, Kofi Annan, and Martin Luther King, Jr. are compared with BDSM... BDSM wins in search volume. Especially in the Netherlands and Poland.

The moon is out
Glistening, shining,

For there are people,

The moonlight is their spotlight,
their time to shine,
to shine with the moon.

Like shit.

[mood: schm':(((((((ish] [listening to: -]

I know there is an unspoken refrain-from-cussing rule around here, but I have to say this.

I just finished an orchestra composition project. And my composition. Is utterly shit. I feel like shit for writing it. I'm ashamed to put my name on it. Its not music that I wrote, its shit.

All those songs I've written in the past that I said sounded bad... they're gold compared to this. I know bad music when I see it. And now, I'm seeing it. There are no transitions, half the voices aren't playing half the time, the rhythm makes literally no sense, and Finale is such a pain in the ass to use it just piles on to my anxiety.

Thats all I have to say. I don't care if you say this is just a school assignment or if no one cares. I'm fucking disappointed in myself I couldn't do better. Do I still have music in me?

I just had to get this out.

kthxnbai.

Limit Break.

[mood: :D] [listening to: Sugar Ray]

Ever play FFVII (Final Fantasy 7)? Limit Breaks. F-ing awesome. I personally liked Tifa's limit break(s). She has different levels like the other characters, but as you get more levels for her limit breaks, they kind of link together. So it is more like one really long limit break. It is pretty sweet though and does total ownage, and also it looks pretty cool. I remember when I watched my cousin use like the whole thing in the house where you find Vincent.

Well anyways, limit breaks. How do they work. Well for those non-gamers out there, each character has a limit bar. Everytime they get hit by an enemy during battle, this bar fills up. Once it fills up all the way, the character can then perform his/her limit break. Simple as that. People have their limits. They can be dropped when necessary. Mothers lifting cars to save their children. Adrenaline. Increased running speed when scared. People can also shut off like all their pain receptors and such. Pretty crazy stuff. When limits are dropped, true potential is revealed. I dropped my limits. I conquered. I owned. I won.

Took me long enough eh? Well I guess waiting pays off. I am kind of glad it dragged on this long. I think a lot of people and learned a lot, about themselves and others. Also, if it wasn't so hard to win, the victory wouldn't have felt as good. Plus, I could always use my misery to create a kick ass book/show/movie. Profiting off of my own misery, ha, I've never heard of that before.

Shine On, the newest album from JET, is pretty coo. I like a couple of the songs, especially King's Horses. The album seems to have a more chill and less agressive tone. In their other album, Get Born, there is a lot more of the screaming and such. You guys may remember this from songs such as "COLD HARD BITCH!" and "HEY! Rollover DJ!" and etc.

O how sweet it is, the taste of victory.

P.S. - How could any of us have forgotten Sugar Ray!? They kick ass.

Weekends.

[mood: schm':((((((ishy] [listening to: bttf]

You know what I like about Labor Day weekend and Thanksgiving weekend? Back to the Future is always on. Part I, II, III, take your pick, its on. BTTF, Catch Me If You Can, and 8 Mile. Trusty long weekend movies.

Whats good about any weekend is theres always a Mythbusters marathon on. I just ate and I'm adding this line in about halfway through my post because I just watched me some.

We have the original Back to the Future soundtrack in vinyl in our house. Awesome. If only the player worked...

So, went to Slabby's party last night. It was pretty cool except the DJ was... a typical DJ. Played only the hip hop, what the kids listen and grind to these days. They also had these glowsticks which me, Roger, and Jeff broke and started throwing the glowing fluid around. We got stuff on the lawn and our clothes were totally glowing. Oh, and Gabby's dad's car. A Benz. Whoops.

I'm trying something new with the dailies today. No link + description, just pure sentences. Best is still last.

  • Its a bird, its a plane, its a... what?

  • Simple English Wikipedia is a encyclopedia... as the digger who posted this puts it, for "slow people." I love it how they explain the word "doctrine" when talking about why the Christians split into denominations: "[they ]split up because they could not agree on some points about the Christian teaching (or “doctrineâ€?)"

  • The trailer for Tenacious D's Pick of Destiny has got to be one of the most uses of the word "fuck" in a single movie trailer in history. And one of the best. You'll have it stuck in your head the rest of the day. Like Less Than Three. If you think Jack Black's an ass... well, watch this. You'll probably still think he's an ass. But still pretty funny. Reminds me a bit of the Four Peters.

Shifting Gears

[mood: whew.] [listening to: The Hush Sound]

Changing. It's hard. New things are hard to get a hold of and get used to. Well, tomorrow's another day. Maybe with time.

You know what the greatest racing game is? Chocobo Racing. That's like one of favorite Playstation games ever. I used to have it, along with a playstation. Lost it though :'( and my cousin took back his PS1 when he went to college. Well actually, I still have the game, it's been on my desk for all these years, and I also have the ginormous memory card with all this data on it. O yea I also have FFIX in Japanese. Just I don't have a Playstation :(.

Wednesday was one longass day. Lots of stuff happened to me. Nothing ever happens to me so I mean, it just totally threw me off. Thursday I got told I had detention :O. Went to Props and Running. Wow, that felt like forever. We did so much work and when we finished all this stuff we were like "What time is it?" "Woa. It's only 4." "Holy shit are you serious?" Yea. 2:30-7. At least we got lots of work done.

Friday. I bet you guys all want to hear about detention. Well afterschool, I went to Mrs. Davis's room. Waited there for a while, talked to some people walking by. Well, kind of, it was more like I got laughed at. What wonderful and supportive friends I have. Well anyways, at like 2:35 she shows up and is like "O I forgot!" Then we went inside the classroom. She asked me what I told my parents happened, and I said what I told them, that I got a detention because my teacher said I wasn't paying attention in class. Well anyways, it turned out well. She said I didn't really have a detention. She just wanted to talk to me about my grade, [D... at least I brought it up from an E.] and she didn't want to say that I had a bad grade in front of the crowd of people who stayed after class. Well I was really relieved. Well we talked and stuff and she also said that she thought that I asked the question I asked in class because I was confused about how to combine sentences and didn't want to say what I wrote down because it was wrong or something. So then she took that opportunity to strike. Well I told her yesterday "nah, that stuff is easy, I just got confused cuz you went out of order and stuff." Just, not in those exact words. Well I have to say, Mrs. Davis is a really nice teacher. Also she is really good at devising plans like that. Well at least it turned out well and I didn't get detention for such a trivial reason. Well the crazy part about all this? Well she was going to find me at 20min break and tell me I didn't need to show up after school and we could talk then, but she was talking to Patricia instead and then forgot later. Well all's well that ends well.

Permit test today. Well I went. We totally forgot my birth certificate. Huzzah. My dad said I had it, which I didn't. He doesn't believe me, we go home, I tell my mom, and she is like "O right! It's on the shelf on my desk." Ha... Well anyways I will go take it Monday afternoon I guess, since there are just way too many people on the weekend.

It seems that almost everything that has happened to me recently are just perfect examples of "All's well that ends well." The phrase, not the play. I have never actually read the play. Many things have come to an end and been resolved in good ways, which just makes all the crap that happened not seem so bad. So it's all good. However, like I said before, there is still that crash :\.

fun.
I wish I had this kind of money. :(
Everything's so expensive!

Drumming heartbeat

[mood: schm':(((((ish] [listening to: q.]

Infrequency of updates. I was talking to Parth about it the other day. And I came up with this: We don't revolve around 9legged; 9legged revolves around us. A nice chiasmus for you. It means that we have external lives that we are more dedicated to than this site. This site is just dedicated to us.

So yesterday I didn't stay after to work on hall and stuff because Caroline asked me to do some volunteer stuff and it sounded like a bunch of hours and I said yes. So she wants me to get off at her bus stop. So I did. And Mr. Watson gave me a goddamn bus referral. He said it in a oh-ho-sucks-to-be-you-but-i'm-still-smiling kinda way. "You can either stay on the bus, or I give you a bus referral. these are my only two options." Now I wasn't really so pissed off at the fact that I got one, but more of his tone of deliverance. He says that I can write it off as long as I bring in a note on Monday so I think I'm going to be fine. But, either way. Deliverance.

And that volunteering thing? We did absolutely nothing. I had lost my jacket Thursday at school and I didn't bring something yesterday so I froze my ass off from like 4-9 sitting around watching the Kempsville homecoming game.

  • Voting for the future - Ever since I got a feedreader and put Kottke back on my daily hit list, I've been reading his stuff more. Ha. Imagine that. Well he brings up an interesting point. Should votes be counted per capita as to accommodate for the future? As in, if people 18+ are voting for themselves now, should parents have the obligation to vote for initiatives and people who would help their children? As in, should children have a vote through their parents? Its a nice idea... but I'm going to have to give this one a big "No."
There will simply be too much abuse. There will be a whole new generation of "voter babies" and "voter marriages." As in, people who get hitched and have babies just so that they can push their views into the elections. Since the kids themselves are 1. uneducated enough to understand, 2. cannot vote anyway, 3. can't really voice their opinions to their parents coherently, 4. cannot reach the voting table, the parents have a free ride for abuse. "Oh, look, honey, we have 4 votes now instead of just our usual 2. Lets vote double for banning stem cell research!" And once a person has reached the ability to be educated, to coherently voice their opinions, and to be tall enough to reach the voting booth, they can either voice their opinions to their parents and influence their decision, or, if their parents and them have differing opinions, they just have to wait a couple of more years.
What would be smarter to do is implement voter aptitude tests for people 14-17. Not racist, just intelligently discriminant. If they're intelligent enough to vote and understand the issue, let them. They're probably more educated than the average voter, anyway. In fact, give voter aptitude tests for everyone. If you're a dumbass, don't vote. Actually. That would never vote. Everyone has a voice, even if you are a dumbass.
However, what actually has a chance of being implemented is a preliminary voter system. People 14-17 can get out there and vote on the exact same ballot as their parents, and their votes will be tallied and given to their representatives and elected officials. This will tell them what eligible voters in the future would want, as opposed to the eligible voters today. This way, some politicians actually might say "hey, looks like these kids want stem cell research. if i don't do something that makes it seem like i support it, i might get voted out! =o." In a perfect world.

  • < Three - Less than three, you love me, typing out my fantasy. Meet me here on IRC, lolol. Less than three, OMG, love computer fantasy. Meet me here on IRC, lolol. One of the most annoying songs you will ever hear in your life. But its so damn sticky. It'll be stuck in your head for the rest of the day, I promise. If you don't think so at the start, wait til the chorus. Typical Japanese music kicks in. I hope to God its Japanese. If you actually look at the lyrics, they're actually quite funny.

  • Castle Crashers racist? - Going to far. Just watch. I'm tired from typing all this. At 9 o'clock on the morning, typing that huge political rant really wears you out.

I got another full day/weekend ahead of me. Thank God I don't have to do more yardwork tomorrow. I got theory in about an hour, then volunteering with some little kid music thing this afternoon, then Slabby's party. Good god. Little kids in Halloween costumes. And I still don't know what I'll be for Slabby's party.

37s ign als ftw

Shake Down

[mood: :)] [listening to: something corporate]

So in a few hours it'll be a wet hair situation. because i didnt shower tonight. just so you know.

i wont meddle unless i have to.

this is what machiavelli was talking about. he always discussed how your state was a product of fortuna and virtu. as in, fortune, other people's virtu, and your virtu. by virtu he meant manliness, strength, vir. if the fortuna is always there for you, please use your virtu. pleaaase. its better than the alternative. eg, well. ill give you an example later. not in this post.

this is what heidegger was talking about. dasein. dont think about the assumptions the world presents, dont apply previous experience. just experience things to experience them truly. ...come to think of it, if heidegger said that, i might disagree with him. experience of how things are helps you experience them in a positive way instead of a negative one. wiki says he was a student of kant, so... but ill just hope that heidegger didnt agree with husserl in that aspect. anyway, the experience of life. this feeling, all the feelings, they're dasein. i agree with the critic who said that heidegger's concept of dasein was essentially god.

so im just starting homework.

more dad stories. him and chris dandrea used to go hunting in the woods for snakes with shovels. they'd overturn rocks and tree trunks to find snakes. then chop their heads off. but that wasnt enough for chris. he threw the two parts into the street, to warn other snakes.

and my uncle mark used to hang out with other kids, and they were in the forest. and theyd exclude my dad and chris. they put up a sign at the front of the woods. so chris gets pissed one day, calls my dad and says, 'hey bobby, meet me at the forest with your ax.' yes. they did. they chopped the hell out of the tree with the sign on it. with two blunt axes. because its not enough to take down the sign. so then they dragged the tree to the leader guys house.

2am, and i cant start on my homework. for the same reason im still up. i just cant sleep. oh, and i got some darjeeling tea today. my mom had a sudden muffin craving after dinner, and we went to harris teeter's. and i got darjeeling.

so im going to start my homework. or try. because tomorrow im seeing marie antoinette. with her. youll understand one day, david. its just a thing that we cant do. saying their name would be too direct and...youll understand.

this applies so much. and you quote the hell out of it. so i wont even post hurricane. because i cant. because it might be rushing things, because youve quoted it. because of that, im sorry people, i wont have lyrics for you today. look them up if you really want them. sometime in the near future ill be quoting high school musical, but thats later, not now. i need to do my homework, so i shall part with you tonight. hopefully you learned some heidegger and machiavelli. i am exhausted though, and after i finish these two typing assignments, im sleeping. assuming i finish at 3, ill still get two and a half hours of sleep. not bad.

fourteen hours...

A dolphin's tail that joins a wolfish groin

[mood: schm':(((((ish] [listening to: lost]

Title taken out of context from the Aeneid. But in a manner of speaking, "wolfish groin" should not be uttered in any work in any time in any language in any context.

I got bored and looked up CAS Hours on Wikipedia. And you thought it stood for Community and Service Hours. Its Creativity, Action, Service Hours. Maybe I'm ignorant, but I didn't know that.

I was going to say some more things, but I accidently closed out my first version of that, and, I'm tired. And I lost my jacket today that had my ipod in it. Totally sucks.

  • Mythbusters bloopers - I like this show. Even funnier when they screw up something. Not that long, but generally the bloopers found on Youtube are pretty funny.

  • Warioware for the PC - Basically a bunch of 4-second, stress-inducing, mini-games, played with only the arrows and space bar.

  • This kid's learning it early - I feel so bad for this kid. Wait til you hit 7th grade man, just wait. It gets worse.

Essplode

[mood: :-----------0] [listening to: hindaaaaa]

I'm gonna explode anytime soon. Ticking as the time passes by. Watch me as a take off and fly away. Bits and peices of what I use to be. Don't bother picking the scraps up, they're dead anyways.

You know what a really feel-good song I have stuck in my head? (besides Unwritten) Is Lips of an Angel by Hinder. The way the singer raises his voice from a low tone to a high tone in .1111 seconds just makes the song so...delicate, yet soothing. If you haven't listened to the song yet, you should. Just for the chorus. Where he raises his voice pitch. Real high. Not too high. But higher than what tone he sings in for the rest of the song. Real feel-good song.

Wait. Why am I getting so much email translated in Spanish?

Trying so hard to not lose it. How long will I last? Till I essploode.

A Promising Sunrise/Devestating Sunset

[mood: high and low] [listening to: blink-182]

A bright new day as come. A promising sunrise is in the distance. I tried to go with the whole archetype thing. The rising sun and such. Well it seems like the course of life is now running nicely and smoothly. Bridges that were broken have now been repaired. Rough waters can now be crossed both easily and safely. There is peace between the two lands. Huzzah! Things are looking good. The two sides have stripped themselves to the core and resolved their differences. All parties are =D I guess you could say.

Well nothing ever stays peaceful for long does it? I guess it's just the world trying to balance itself out. Things can never be too perfect :\, sucks eh? Well I guess it is just another truth of life. There is some Chinese proverb thingy saying how if you are too perfect, the gods will be envious. Well basically, they will be kinda mad, and fix you up. Just think of all those myths and stuff. Those guys on Mt. Olympus really messed with some people.

Well I guess the flow has been disrupted by a third party. Right when everything is good, someone drops the bomb on one unsuspecting side. They kill the happiness. A dark storm extinguishes the light of the sun. [Note - It doesn't affect the other side though, all should be well there.] I guess the unsuspecting side should have had more defense and better prepared itself, maybe they could have prepared an umbrella.

Well anyways. It sucks. It's like doing cocaine. One moment, you're as elated as anything, then the next, you crash and burn. Ending at the bottom of a crater of unfathomable depth. Then you realize, maybe you should learn how to fly.

1) Avoid the sun. Don't want to end up like poor old Icarus, or that other guy... with Apollo's Chariot.
2) Learn what to do during sticky situations. Sudden burst of wind throw you off? Get right back on.
3) Be prepared for the fall. Just in case of course. Anything can happen. Parachutes would be a good idea.

I have realized something. Not something good. I am often thirsty. And my three favorite things to drink are...?
1) Water - mmm, the essence of life
2) Tea - asian-y and delicious!
3) Alcohol - ehhh.... not good in excess...
Don't jump to conclusions though. I haven't drunk any alcohol since the flight back from Taiwan [screwdriver = vodka + orange juice. The more you know.] which was barely anything. I also don't drink alcohol to get drunk. Like I have said before, I've only been drunk once, when I was two. Yea sure, that sounds bad, but I was in Taiwan, and my uncle was giving me white wine + apple sidra [name of drink, which is essentially just apple cider in a can]. As a two year old, I enjoyed it. Mmm tasty, fruit juice. Drank too much though :\.

I just felt the need to say that. I am kinda in a confessing mood or something right now. I just don't want you guys to see me as a bad person though. I've done a lot of things in Taiwan and also all throughout my past that I am not proud of. Right now I am just feeling really bad. I just feel. Dirty. I feel like such a horrible person right now.

Well anyways. Sorry for another rant. I'll try to stop.

A Change

[mood: =o] [listening to: panic!]

A change every once in a while is good, even needed. so for a change, the lyrics that i post at the end of my post will not pertain to the SQ. they're part of a narrative about a girl who shot her face off and the brother that she didnt know was brandy.

so watson started singing clash today. she even sang the right song.

so ive decided to shower at night. the rushing in the morni-well, let me just tell you the story my dad told me. he figured this out with my uncle and their friends years back. if you shower at night, you're refreshed for more homework, but you could always wake up with a bedhead. if you shower in the morning, you have to wake up earlier, and you've got a wet head. which is especially bad in the winter. that's called a wet hair situation. so its either a bedhead situation or a wet hair situation. so sometimes my uncle(not related) would call my dad and say 'we're leaving in ten minutes, bobby. it's a wet hair situation.'

i think waking up and doing homework works better for me. but the hard part is actually waking up early. about half of the time i wake up, about half the time i dont.

ah, ive got an even better one. these 'lesson' latin homeworks arent too appealing to me. the lesson four one was the first homework that i didnt do in earles' class this year. a change upon a change.

ive always been good, or at least capable of, presenting a theme and keeping it intertwined throughout the work.

but thats just the myspace complex. which i guess isnt bad. 'ive got the gift of one liners' is better than 'lick it up, lick it up, its only right now.' speaking of which, lick it up came on the radio while my dad and i were radio surfing on the way back from CCD. we both laughed when we heard the first line.

and my sister's missing school today. she's got a stomach bug. which i can already unfortunately feel.

so many changes to the plan. the actor was changed, and now the timeframe's changing. has changed. we'll see.

i think chuck's right. but then again, materialism and consumerism is the best we've got.

Time to Dance(excerpt)
PANIC! At the Disco

Give me envy,
Give me malice,
Give me attention,
Give me envy,
Give me malice,
Baby, give me a break,
When I say shotgun, you say wedding,
Shotgun, Wedding,
Shotgun, Wedding,

Boys will be boys,
Hiding in estrogen, and boys will be boys,
Boys will be boys,
Hiding in estrogen and wearing aubergine dreams.

For what it's worth

[mood: schm':((((((ish] [listening to: forwhatitsworth]

There are two types of people in this world: the intellectual and the unintellectual. Both start out in a glass jar. The Intellectual thrives for knowledge for himself and others. He figures out a way to climb out of the jar and tells his friends. The Unintellectual, or dunce, as I like to call him, does not care for himself, or others. He lives his life in a jar, watching his world pass by. Who are you?

This world really does need more intellectual people. It gets me sad everytime I realize how... unenlightened, some people could be. And how I could have never realized it before.

  • Another school shooting - This time, a suicide. The school admins are claiming it to be an accident, but there was a note found and the contents are not disclosed yet. Doesn't scream "accident" to me. Someone's just taking cutting to the extreme. Its sad the state of things are.

  • Scamz0red! - A 13 year old girl using Myspace... can you finish the sentence? Was stalked then molested? Was the victim of an online predator? Was actually at 35-year old man? Who knows M. Foley? NO! The correct answer is "totally scamz0red a couple of dumbasses from Kansas." This girl created a Myspace and posed as a Sony music executive looking for new acts, and a band in Kansas was tricked enough to fly out to Los Angeles, go into the suburbs, only to be offered free pizza and drinks. And the true bit of magic in this that the only punishment the girl recieved is being grounded. And she couldn't talk on the phone for the report. Can anyone say irony?

  • The iPhone, this time its real - No, seriously. An "analyst" who remains "mum" on his sources, is calling for two iPhones due out in early fiscal '07, one with wifi, and one without. Yeah. Right. And then the purple fairy ladies will bring hail in the shape of sheep to us.
